MySQL 5 has added Triggers, StoredProcedures, and amny other functionality. Now can we say that it is equivalent to the Oracle in its functionalities?

You cannot compare the MySql with Oracle. Both have it advantage and dis-advantage. MySql current community is Open Source and it is far behind Oracle. But MySql 5.x has very tremendous improvement. May be coming us years it compete with Oracle.

If you want "Oracle-like" feature set in the Open Source world, I think you should be looking to PostgreSQL and similar.

Take a look at http://www.enterprisedb.com/ who develop a PostgreSQL distribution called "Postgres Plus Advanced Server" which has PL/SQL, Oracle-style SQL syntax and data types.

MySQL has it's pro's and con's. I suggest when comparing RDBMSes, you should also look at where the innovation is happening in the MySQL world too. Although Sun bought MySQL ... there's a lot of cool stuff going on in: http://ourdelta.org/ http://www.percona.com/ and https://launchpad.net/drizzle
