Revisiting the Joomla 1.6 Road Map

One of the recent Development Summit joomla community members re-visited the road-map for Joomla 1.6. The features are given below and it is estimated that it will get completed before releasing the Joomla 1.6 alpha version.

2. A simple way of providing translation in JavaScript Complete
3. New controller dispatchers for more robust request routing Complete
4. A new access control system that needs to at least emulate what is in 1.5, allow adding of new groups and access levels, and allow you to set new "view" rules for at least articles Nearly complete
5. new event triggers In Progress
6. JContent class that will be used by content plug-ins and views In Progress
7. Menu manager re-work In Progress

 

There are lot of new functionality. But above are the major functionalities.

I would say the big thing that needs to be done is make it so that we can easily install a plug-in or component once Joomla 1.5 is installed. Right now the installation process is not everything you need to do to get that to happen. I've messaged the Joomla IRC channel a couple of times on this one. Never been able to get a decent explanation as to why this doesn't work out of the box.

I just read they will also be including a native article commenting system. Any truth to that?
